At LAAM Fashion Week, U&I by Umer Imrana Lets the Weave Set the Dress Code

The most telling detail in U&I by Umer Imrana’s collection was not an elaborate silhouette, but the finish of the cloth itself. Gold-edged weaves brought definition to relaxed garments, while stripes and checks established a distinctive graphic character. Opening the LFW Edit at LAAM Fashion Week, the label approached everyday dressing through the expressive possibilities of handwoven textiles.
The palette moved between bright and earthy tones, giving the patterned fabrics an appealing visual range. Stripes introduced a sense of linear order, while checks created shifts in scale and composition. Rather than relying on complicated construction or excessive embellishment, the collection allowed these woven characteristics to shape its identity.
Tasselled dupattas introduced a looser, more playful element. Their movement offered a counterpoint to the geometry of the textiles, while artisanal accessories contributed further texture without overwhelming the garments. Gold-edged detailing provided a subtle decorative finish, demonstrating how even a relatively small feature could influence the overall impression of a look.
What distinguished U&I’s approach was the decision to place such considered textile work within uncomplicated, wearable silhouettes. The collection suggested that handwoven craftsmanship need not be reserved for formal occasions or ceremonial dressing. Its appeal lay in making the intricacies of weaving part of an everyday wardrobe, where pattern, texture and finish could be appreciated through the simple act of wearing the clothes.
