Saira Rizwan brought the richness of Mughal craftsmanship to the LAAM Fashion Week Season 2 runway with The Art of Heritage, a collection that explored traditional South Asian dress through contemporary cuts, elaborate embroidery and a jewel-toned colour palette. Supermodel Amna Babar closed the presentation as the celebrity showstopper.

Taking inspiration from Mughal gardens, historic architecture and vintage botanical illustrations, the collection translated centuries-old decorative traditions into modern occasionwear. Floral compositions, symmetrical patterns and ornamental detailing appeared across ensembles in deep burgundy, rust, antique gold, teal and fuchsia.

The silhouettes drew heavily on traditional formal dressing but introduced variations in proportion and structure. Elongated open-front jackets were paired with sculpted bodices, while flared peplum shirts and voluminous tiered ghararas brought movement and drama to the runway.

Embroidery remained central to the collection. Antique-gold threadwork, delicate sequins, metallic accents and intricately finished borders highlighted the craftsmanship, with decorative elements referencing the architectural and artistic traditions of the Mughal period.

Rather than reproducing historical garments, Rizwan approached heritage as a starting point for contemporary design. Familiar silhouettes were reshaped, proportions reconsidered and traditional surface techniques adapted to reflect changing preferences in formal and festive wear.

The presentation concluded with supermodel Amna Babar taking the runway as Rizwan’s showstopper, adding a prominent closing moment to the designer’s showcase.

With The Art of Heritage, Saira Rizwan made a case for the continued relevance of traditional craftsmanship in Pakistani fashion, demonstrating how historical references can find a place within a modern occasion wear wardrobe.
