Power dressing tends to favour a firm outline. At LAAM Fashion Week, Parishae Adnan’s Ikhtiaar made room for a more varied expression of authority, one that could be sharply defined or allowed to move.

Black and charcoal grey held the collection together, but the silhouettes resisted uniformity. Sculpted waistcoats brought precision to the torso; voluminous trousers and sweeping skirts gave the body space. Dramatic gowns and commanding outerwear developed that play of scale, shifting between controlled structure and expansive forms without abandoning the collection’s dark, concentrated palette.

Metallic silver supplied a different kind of emphasis. Chains and oversized medallions brought weight to the surface, while embellishment and ornate jewellery caught the light against dark fabrics. Rich textures complicated the otherwise restrained colour story. Their scale made adornment an integral part of how the clothes communicated presence.

Ikhtiaar’s exploration of women’s agency and self-expression emerged most clearly through this variety of visual codes. The waistcoat suggested resolve through its close construction; the sweeping skirt found it in movement. Rather than prescribing one recognisable image of the powerful woman, Adnan assembled several ways of occupying space, each with its own authority.
