Almirah Gives Imagination a Looser Silhouette at Laam Fashion Week

Nature is easy to reference in clothing; it is harder to translate into the way fabric feels and falls. At Laam Fashion Week, Almirah’s Takhayyul approached the subject through surface as much as image, allowing textured patchwork, intricate embroidery and abstract motifs to suggest the landscape without reproducing it literally.
The Urdu title, meaning imagination, suited a collection concerned with interpretation rather than imitation. Earthy browns and forest greens established a grounded palette, while deep blues and muted neutrals introduced unexpected shifts. These colours were more than a backdrop for decoration. Their combinations contributed to the visual complexity of fabrics enriched with handcrafted embellishments and layered textures.
The silhouettes offered another interpretation of the natural world, one less concerned with rigid outlines. Relaxed tunics and fluid wide-leg trousers introduced movement, while oversized jackets and dramatic outer layers brought visual weight and breadth. This variation in proportion ensured that the collection did not rely on intricate surface work alone. The eye moved between the expanse of a garment and the concentrated detail within it.
What distinguished Takhayyul was its treatment of nature as something to be interpreted through material rather than merely illustrated. Almirah’s strongest proposition lay in the relationship between colour, craftsmanship and silhouette, with imagination evident in the construction of the clothes as much as their decoration.
